Gratefulness in the Midst of This

What a time to be alive, friends. I hope you all are doing ok and finding ways to keep yourselves sane and healthy during this time. I’m amazed at the ways the world is coming together to handle this pandemic and keep our friends and neighbors safe. But at the same time, it’s also pretty scary and kind of a lot to take in. In trying to keep my own brain in a positive place, I’ve made a list of five things I’m thankful for right now.

  1. My personal health. It’s a scary time to worry about getting sick. Thanks to my 26th birthday a week ago, I’m currently in a gap between health insurance coverage until April 1st. So I’m grateful for the measures being taken to keep people heathy, and that I haven’t experienced any type of sickness during this uncertain time. Keep washing your hands, friends!

  2. My family. For some people, living in a quarantine situation with their family might not be an easy thing to do, for all kinds of reasons. I’ve been blessed with wonderful family (and dog!) to be stuck in a house with. (I mean, at least we’re getting along so far…) 🙂

  3. A blank slate. While canceled plans and indefinite breaks from many things in our lives is pretty unfortunate, I’m also a huge fan of new beginnings. Though many things are being turned on their heads right now, the blessing is being able to step back and take a new look at our daily routines and life trajectories. It helps refresh my brain, and for that I am thankful.

  4. My home. I’m grateful to live in such a rural location where it’s not a problem at all to practice social distancing when I take my dog outside or go for a walk. I might run into a turkey or a deer, but other humans are few and far between. I’m thankful I can enjoy the fresh air and wide open spaces.

  5. Social media. Y’all, I am always always always thankful for the community we can share through the internet, but especially so right now. At what other point in history would it have been so easy for us to stay connected during a time when everyone is staying in their own homes? It’s just magical, friends.

Do any of these resonate with you too right now? I’d encourage you to think of some things you’re grateful for and write them down, tell a friend, call your mom. And I’d love to hear them too, so please feel free to share your positivity below. We can do this, friends.
